Childhood of a Killer

In the second part of Capote’s In Cold Blood he gives the reader the difficult life of Perry. This retelling shows the trials of Perry as a young boy, and what influences shaped him to become what he is now. As a child Perry was taught wrong from right, yet something was still wrong with him. Capote portrays Perry at times as a caring individual when he was young he protected the smaller children at his school from the bullies. Perry also did not have a traditional childhood, “Six of us riding in an old truck, sleeping in it ,too, sometimes, living off mush and Hershey kisses and condensed milk”(131). This quotation stated by Perry depicts his life as an uncertain and shaky. As Perry grows older he tries to find a firm and constant source of good influence for his mixed up life. In this he joins the military and in turn his legs become weak due to a accident and his morale and happiness plummet.
