Foreshadowing

Foreshadowing is expressed in In Cold Blood in several ways including the father’s feelings towards Nancy’s boyfriend, and Perry’s frustration of other’s happiness. Capote uses foreshadowing when dealing with the ‘perfect family’, in which he uses Nancy’s boyfriend, Bobbie, to show the families problem. Including, the situation in which, her father believes that they would never end up together and so the couple must break it off as soon as possible. This was used by capote to foreshadow the fact that Nancy dies and they could never be together in the end. Capote uses another factor for foreshadowing, which is his contradiction of Perry’s frustration of other’s happiness along with Perry’s belief in fate and the having of morals. Capote takes Perry’s feeling of morals into the direction of wanting everyone to be equal while thinking that Perry is not as wealthy as others and it was okay to take it from the wealthy. Capote also took Perry’s feelings of aggravation toward the wealth of others into consideration as well. Conclusively, Capote uses different ways of foreshadowing in the first part of In Cold Blood.
